This fishing report, provided by Bill Dunn and New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, has been generated from the best information available from area officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 295 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing on the Albuquerque, Belen and Peralta Drains was fair to good using salmon eggs, wooly buggers and wax worms for trout. We had no reports on other species or from the other drains.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was very good using swim baits, crank baits, jerk baits and hot dogs for tiger musky. We had no reports on other species. Anglers should be aware that it is illegal to use bait fish at this lake.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 53 cfs and 53 cfs respectively. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair using very small midge patterns and salmon eggs. A stealth approach was required with the low flow conditions. We had no reports from below El Vado.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Contact the State Park office at (575) 588-7247 for updated ice conditions.
Fenton Lake: A layer of ice has formed on the lake and it is closed to ice fishing. Put this one back on your list for great fishing early next spring.
Heron Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. For updated ice conditions, contact the State Park office at (575) 588-7470.
Jackson Lake: Trout fishing was good using salmon eggs, Gulp eggs and Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow near Jemez on Monday morning was 45 cfs. Fishing on the lower Jemez was slow. We had no reports on other area waters.
Laguna Del Campo: Closed for the season.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using swim baits for northern pike. A few smallmouth bass were caught by anglers using jigs and swim baits. We had no reports on other species. The surface temp ranged from the mid to high 40s.
San Gregorio: We had no reports from anglers.
San Juan River: Water flow below Navajo Lake on Monday morning was 348 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using olive wooly buggers, red larva, leech patterns, Desert Storms and egg patterns. Fishing through the bait waters was good using Gulp eggs, salmon eggs, wooly buggers and San Juan worms.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Central Pond was very good using Power Bait, salmon eggs, marshmallows, wooly buggers, Super Dupers and Pistol Petes. Fishing at the Youth Pond was very good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and marshmallows. Fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair to good using leeches, egg patterns, small bead-head pheasant tails and streamers.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Northeast
Charette Lakes: Closed for the season.
Cimarron River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Clayton Lake: Closed for the season.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
Coyote Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Eagle Rock Lake: Closed through next fall. The closure will allow Chevron Mining to dredge the lake and reconstruct the area.
Eagle Nest Lake: Closed to fishing due to thin ice conditions. For updated conditions contact the State Park office at (575) 377-1594
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Alice: Open to bank fishing but no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Ice thickness as of Sunday remained at about 10.5 inches. Trout fishing was good using corn, ice jigs and homemade dough bait. We had no reports on perch. Contact the State Park office at (575) 445-5607 for updated ice conditions.
Los Pinos: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Maxwell Lake 13: Closed for the season.
Monastery Lake: Trout fishing was very good for anglers using Power Bait, homemade dough bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Morphy Lake: Closed for the season.
Mt View Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Pecos River: Stream flow near Anton Chico on Monday was 40 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs.
Red River: Water flow near the hatchery on Monday was 23 cfs. Trout fishing was slow. Fishing pressure was very light.
Rio Costilla: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 671 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
Rio Hondo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Pueblo: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: This water remains closed to boating and fishing while the Bureau of Land Management renovates the north lake campground, boat launch, picnic area and main access road. The plan is to have all work completed by the end of July. The only fishing access at this time is walk-in from the overlook area. We will provide progress updates as we receive them.
Shuree Ponds: Closed for the season.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using Sling Blades and jig-and-minnow combinations for white bass and walleye. Most of the fish caught were at depths of 40 to 50 feet of water. The surface temp was in the mid 40s.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: Fishing was good using salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bear Canyon: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, corn and Power Bait for trout. A few were also caught by anglers using Pistol Petes and Kastmasters.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using minnows, grubs and crank baits at the upper end of the lake for walleye. We had no reports on other species. Fishing pressure was light.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using minnows, spoons and crank baits for a mix of white bass and walleye. We had no reports on other species.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was rated as excellent for anglers using homemade dough bait, corn and salmon egg combinations and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Gila River: Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 267 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was very good using Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout.
Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: Fishing was good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and Gulp eggs for trout. We had no reports on tiger musky.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte on Monday morning was .70 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: Trout fishing continued to be very good for anglers using Power Bait, corn, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes. We had no reports on other species.
Southeast
Bataan Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs, Power Bait, and homemade dough bait. We had no reports on other species.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 17 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bonito Lake: Closed.
Bosque Redondo: Fishing was fair using Power Bait, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes and small spoons for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Bottomless Lakes: Trout fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs and orange and chartreuse Power Bait.
Brantley Lake: Fishing from boats was good using crank baits, jerk baits, spinner baits, tubes and grubs for a mixed bag of white bass and largemouth bass. Bank fishing has been difficult due to high water conditions. Anglers are to practice catch-and-release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, worms and Power Bait for trout.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and homemade dough bait for trout.
Eunice Lake: Trout fishing was good using salmon eggs and Power Bait.
Green Meadow Lake: Trout fishing was very good using Kastmasters, Power Bait, corn and salmon egg combinations and salmon eggs.
Greene Acres Lake: Trout fishing was good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and small spoons.
Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, homemade dough bait and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species. Jenni Henley Nowlin fished here with her dad and husband over the weekend. They all caught trout and Jenni caught her first limit. They were using salmon eggs.
Jal Lake: Fishing was good using corn, salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout.
Lake Van: Fishing was good using Kastmasters, homemade dough bait, salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. We had no reports on other species.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was very good using wooly buggers, Pistol Petes, Kastmasters, salmon eggs and Power Bait for trout. Several limits were reported. We had no reports on other species.
Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 30 cfs. Fishing below Sumner was good using salmon eggs, Power Bait and Gulp eggs for trout.
Perch Lake: Fishing was very good using Super Dupers and salmon eggs for trout.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 30 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow for all species and fishing pressure was very light.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
