ALAMOGORDO — If there were any doubts about Friday’s Clovis High-Alamogordo girls outcome, Lady Wildcats senior Danni Williams took care of them.
Williams poured in four 3-pointers and 33 points, accounting for nearly half the scoring as the Lady Cats clinched the District 4-6A girls regular-season title with a 53-19 rout.
Clovis (23-2, 5-0 district) finishes regular-season play at home on Thursday against Carlsbad.
Senior guard Nichele Hyman added 10 points for CHS, which led 34-6 at halftime after Williams scored 11 points in a 19-1 second-quarter blitz.
“I thought our defense was great tonight,” CHS coach Jeff Reed said. “You can’t play better defense than that. And Danni was on fire with four 3-pointers.”
Only four players — the team’s seniors — scored for the Lady Cats. Meantime, they limted the Lady Tigers (13-11, 0-4) to just seven field goals.
Junior forward Krystyn Archuleta finished with nine points for Alamogordo.
Reed was glad to get the district title out of the way before facing Carlsbad. He noted the Lady Cats won’t have to play on the road again until they reach the Class 6A state tournament, assuming they do that.
“It was great to do that,” he said. “Hopefully, this will carry over against Carlsbad and in (the postseason).”
