Doug Lynch of Clovis, owner of Clovis Indoor Soccer, speaks with those who attended Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony on Schepps Boulevard.
Staff writer[email protected]Soccer has been a family passion in the Lynch family for more than 30 years. Now, that passion is bringing Clovis its first indoor soccer facility.
Owners Doug Lynch and his son Levi, the general manager, broke ground for the 15,000 square foot facility with the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce Monday.
“This has been part of a dream for Levi and myself,” Doug Lynch said. “We've been working on this for over four years now, and it's finally coming around.”
The facility, located by the Clovis Civic Center, will feature a heated and air conditioned 105 by 75 foot field, private lessons and clinics, and leagues and tournaments for children and adults.
Levi said they came up with the idea after competing in indoor facilities throughout New Mexico.
“We've been traveling a lot out of town, and we've always competed in indoor in those towns,” Levi Lynch said. “There are a lot of teams from Clovis traveling. We thought that if it was local, then there's an interest here.”
“It's a beautiful sport,” said owner Doug Lynch. “It's very popular in this area.”
Doug said there are several advantages to playing soccer indoors, such as protection from foul weather conditions and playing after dark.
“Everybody is really excited,” Doug said. “It's incredibly fun, it's great training for outdoor soccer, and it keeps the kids active all year round.”
Levi Lynch said they hope to be up and running by April or May.
“We're hoping to have it up and having a league going in the summer for kids and adults,” Levi Lynch said.
