ENMU basketball teams add three players

Staff report

PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball program has added a pair of recruits for the 2015-16 basketball season.

Zias coach Josh Prock said the players are 5-foot-8 wing Miranda Moore of Coolidge, Ariz., and 5-10 post Julianna Leeper of Fort Worth, Texas.

Moore, who will be a senior in the fall, played at Coolidge H.S. before going on to NCAA Division II Dixie State and Central Arizona College. While at Central Arizona, she helped her team reach the National Junior College Athletic Association semifinals in 2012 and the NJCAA national championship game the following year.

Prock said Moore is capable of playing all three guard positions.

Leeper has been named to the TAPPS District 2-3A first-team team three times, Prock said, adding that she was also the district player of the year. She has a chance to surpass the 2,000-point mark for her high school career this season, he said.

ENMU men — Brady Patterson of Rio Rancho H.S. has signed a national letter of intent to play with the Greyhounds next season.

Greyhounds coach Stott Carter said Patterson, a 6-1 guard, led Rio Rancho in scoring, assists and steals while playing nearly 30 minutes a game last season. He said Patterson had five 30-point games, including a career-best 37 in a win over Sandia on Jan. 28.

Carter said Patterson drew interest from several Division I programs, including New Mexico and New Mexico State, but chose ENMU because he likes the Hounds’ up-tempo style of play.
