Tascosa downs Lady Cats

Staff report

AMARILLO — Clovis High volleyball coach Gabe Apodaca knew his team was in for a tough time Tuesday night when he watched Amarillo Tascosa warm up.

“I was wondering what we’d gotten ourselves into,” Apodaca said.

The Lady Wildcats won the opening set, but the Lady Rebels dominated the rest of the way en route to a 22-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-15 victory.

Despite the loss, Apodaca said he was pleased overall with what he saw against a Tascosa squad playing its 31st match (17-14).

“We played hard,” he said. “That’s something we’ve been fighting with this group.”

Senior Danni Williams led the Lady Cats (2-5) with 11 kills and three blocks, while senior Rylie Lee collected 20 digs. Senior setter Dakota Grummer posted a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.

“It was a good match for us,” Apodaca said. “The score wasn’t indicative of how we really did.”

Clovis returns to action on Thursday when it plays at Roswell High.
