One night in high school, around Halloween when my father and I were alone, we watched the movie “Night of the Living Dead.” I was familiar with zombies, but this was my first zombie movie.
I was not sure what to expect, but what I got was one of greatest zombie movies of all time and it was the first.
After this fateful viewing of this zombie film, I started to watch other zombie movies.
I won’t list all the zombie movies I have seen, but I will say my favorite zombie movie is “Shaun of the Dead.”
It is funny, has one of my favorite actors — Simon Pegg — and what it points out about modern life is brilliant.
Also, it’s a British zombie film, so I have to love it.
The thing about watching zombie movies is they make you think, “What would I do in this situation? Would I escape a horde of zombies or become a zombie myself?”
I have thought this out over and over again and so I have made a zombie survival plan. Yes, zombies aren’t real, but it can be used in any disaster, to be honest.
I have a first aid kit ready to go and an emergency bag in my car, so I always feel prepared. The only thing I don’t have is a weapon.
After reading the book “World War Z,” (it is nothing like the movie) I found out the simplest weapons were the ones that killed the most zombies.
If that day comes when the dead start to rise, you might see me with just a hammer in hand running to my car and getting out of Portales as fast as I can.
