Eastern New Mexico University quarterback Jeremy Buurma is one of 182 college football players nominated for the 1014 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works team.
Buurma, a Las Cruces High graduate who will be a redshirt junior in the fall, was recognized for community service accomplishments including organizing and instructing a four-week youth football camp for Portales City Sports, raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital through the Up ’Til Dawn program and volunteering with youth through the Portales after-school program.
Last season, Buurma completed 94-of-174 passes for 1,569 yards, with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, as ENMU went 7-3 and earned a share of its first Lone Star Conference title since 1991.
From 182 nominees, a final roster of 22 award recipients — comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Subdivision and 11 from the Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and the NAIA — will be released in September.
