One lucky Air Commando at Cannon Air Force Base walked away with a sizable cash reward courtesy of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service June 18.

Staff Sgt. Scott Langguth, 27th Special Operations Support Squadron Air Traffic Controller, received a great start to his day when he was presented with a $1,000 AAFES gift card during a brief prize presentation at the Base Exchange.

“I registered while I was on TDY at the BX at Keesler -LESS-THAN-0054375-Air Force Base, Mississippi-GREATER-THAN-0054375- while I was attending training,” Langguth stated. “I’ve always seen the raffle boxes at the entrances of the BX, and I always fill out an entry form. My mentality is that you can’t win if you don’t play; plus, entry is free so there really isn’t any downside to taking a few seconds to fill out and submit a ticket.”

And it would seem that Langguth’s low-risk approach to chance paid off; there were no criteria for entering the drawing and although the contest form was dropped-off at another installation’s BX, Langguth was conveniently presented the grand prize locally.

“I still can’t believe I won,” Langguth exclaimed. “I never enter these drawings with the expectation of winning, but it’s apparently worth it. I had completely forgotten even signing up this time, so hearing back from the AAFES representative blew me away.”

“I’m not sure what I’ll put the money toward - probably gas and everyday essentials,” he continued. “It will be nice to not have to worry about paying for fuel for a while, especially considering recent price increases. I just want to thank AAFES again for all the support they provide to all military service branches — the convenience and benefits service members gain through them is truly remarkable!”
