Isaiah Samoei finished in first place in the 3,000 and second in the 1,500 for Eastern New Mexico University in the West Texas A&M Classic in Canyon, Texas.

CANYON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University got a 1-2 finish in the 3,000-meter run, and had a pair of other athletes take top-two finishes during the West Texas A&M Classic, held Friday and Saturday at West Texas A&M University.

Senior Isaiah Samoei, who also finished fifth in the 1,500, finished the 3,000 in 8:46.99, just ahead of teammate Jacob Lozano at 8:50.67.

The 3,000 time was a record for the WT Track and Field Complex. Sophomore Amber Saiz finished second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:45.03, while Alesha Jones was second in the 800 with a time of 2:12.52.

The Zias took three of the top six places in the hammer throw, led by Breanne Pendleton’s third-place throw of 47.4 meters. Laura Grube was second in the javelin throw at 39.9 meters, while Texico native Jesus Rivera was third in the men’s javelin at 48.86 meters.

The track teams will next run in the Lone Star Conference Championships this weekend at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
