PHS squads ninth in Hobbs track meet

HOBBS — Portales High’s track teams each finished ninth on Friday in the 10-school Gene Wells Relays track meet.

The PHS boys scored 30 points, with junior Michael Nichols finishing second in long jump at 20 feet, 4 inches, posting third-place finishes in both hurdles races and running on two scoring relays.

Host Hobbs won the meet with 104 1/2 points, while Carlsbad came in second with 64 points.

Meantime, the Lady Rams tallied 15 points. Sophomore Hannah Cabledue had the team’s top individual finish, coming in second in pole vault at 7-6.

St. Pius took girls team honors with 94 points, while Artesia was second at 79.

The Rams and Lady Rams will host the Jim Love Invitational next Friday at the PHS track.
