Escalante upends Dora in overtime

BERNALILLO — Dora had its chances to put away Escalante in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. That wasn’t true in overtime.
Reynaldo Atencio and Adam Edwards scored 16 points each as Escalante beat Dora 65-54 in overtime Wednesday in a Class 1A boys state quarterfinal game.

Josh Walker scored 15 points for the fourth-ranked Coyotes (24-5) with Dylan and Dalton Privett added nine points each.
William Hurd and Dominic Montano added 12 points each for the fifth-ranked Lobos (23-3).
“They played well in spurts,” Dora coach Kevin Lackey said about his team, which was making its third-straight trip to the final eight. “My kids played awfully hard. We did everything we could. We had an opportunity at the end of the game, but sometimes it’s just not your day.”
The lead seesawed back in fourth in the last 12 minutes, with Dora having the last chance in regulation time, but an inbounds pass with three seconds left sail out of bounds.
Dora led 27-22 at halftime.
