MELROSE — You didn’t expect another 20-point blowout, did you?

Melrose’s girls built a six-point lead after one-quarter, then hung on late to edge Logan 47-46 on Friday in the girls District 3-1A tournament championship game.

On Monday night at The Rock in Clovis, the Lady Buffs (17-10) had their way with Logan, winning 63-43 in a tiebreaker for homecourt advantage in the district tournament.

Junior Caley Barnard, held to 10 points on Monday, scored 23 in this one for Melrose while sophomore Taylor Bostwick, coming off a career-high 32 four nights earlier, chipped in 10. Emily Collins and Brooke Rachor led the Lady Longhorns (22-7) with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

In other tournament games on Friday:

  • Farwell’s boys saw their season come to an end with a 45-35 loss to Memphis in a Texas Class 1A Region I semifinal game. Peyton Little led three players in double figures for Memphis (22-6) with 15 points, while Austin Mason paced the Steers (21-9) with 10.
  • Floyd’s girls had top-ranked Tatum down 21-15 at halftime in the District 8-1A tourney title clash, but the Lady Coyotes (25-1) came back to pull out a 43-38 win behind 18 points from Abby Medlin. Tabitha Ornelas led the Lady Broncos (18-8) with 27 points.
  • In the Texas Christian Athletic League state tournament at Waco, Texas, Clovis Christian dropped a 37-24 decision to Corpus Christi Annapolis in a consolation game. Michael Furrow led the Eagles (10-9) with seven points.
