To have, hold, love and cherish

According to the U.S. Air Force Chaplain Corps, more than 5,000 Air Force families have participated in a Marriage Care retreat; and of those, 99 percent reported a strengthened marriage and higher marital satisfaction following the event.

Marriage Care retreats have helped more than 5,000 Air Force couples build a stronger marriage. For information about Marriage Care or to register for the next retreat, call 575-784-2507.

Cannon Air Force Base is dedicated to the welfare of its Air Commandos, families and their marriages. The Air Force has a vested interest in the overall health of all airmen, and that is directly reflected in the organizational mission.

In order to achieve that mission, the Air Force concentrates on developing airmen that embody the core values — integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all they do.

"Helping to develop healthy marriages ultimately helps develop a healthier military organization," said Tech. Sgt. Yolanda Wallace, 27th Special Operations Wing chaplain assistant. "The Air Force Special Operations Command community is very busy and we understand that spouses, children and other family members make sacrifices in support of loved ones who successfully carry out our mission."

"We are here to provide the tools for a successful marriage," Wallace continued. "The Marriage Care retreat is very important; it is not only a getaway for couples to spend quality time with each other, but also provides some tools on how to communicate, love and care for each other better."

The Cannon Community Chapel plans several Marriage Care retreats each year. On average, collaboration with multiple base organizations, three to six months of planning, and more than 100 man-hours in the execution phase go into each retreat.

One of many reasons behind the growth and success of the program is that it is ever-evolving. The chapel incorporates data compiled from the base needs assessment survey to design each marriage care event.
