Zias' Wilson moving on to Fresno Pacific

Eastern New Mexico University is looking for another women's head coach.

Days after softball coach Lauren Sigwing stepped down, basketball coach Lindsey Wilson turned in her resignation Monday.

Athletic director Jeff Geiser said Wilson has accepted the head coaching position at Fresno Pacific, an NAIA school in the process of transitioning to NCAA Division II.

Wilson, a former player at Central Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma in the Lone Star Conference, came to ENMU two years ago. Her teams compiled a 17-39 record, making trips both seasons to the LSC tournament.

The move caught Geiser a bit off-guard.

"The position is open and we move forward," he said. "I don't want to be in this position, but I can't worry about the past."

Wilson is taking over a program which has a good history, but has struggled in recent years. The Sunbirds parted ways with coach Erin Scholz after the 2012-13 campaign after they went 26-60, incluing 4-21 this year. FPU has not posted a winning season since 2006-07.

Geiser said he wants to move quickly to fill the ENMU position.

"We want to move as quickly as we can, for the sake of the student-athletes," he said. "I'm optimistic we'll have a good pool of candidates, even this late."

Geiser said the school would begin reviewing applications on May 24, and he hopes they can fill it by June 7.

He added that ENMU will have summer girls basketball camps as scheduled, with men's assistant coach Stott Carter taking them over. Geiser said anyone with questions about the camp can call the ENMU athletic office at 562-2153.

Attempts to contact Wilson by phone were unsuccessful.
