Clovis native ties in qualifier

Former Clovis High golf standout Travis Reid tied for medalist honors Monday at a local U.S. Open qualifier tournament in Las Cruces.

Reid shot an even-par 72 at Red Hawk Golf Club and advances to the sectional round of qualifying for the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., in June.

It is Reid's first time to make it to a U.S. Open sectional.

"I've never gotten through: I've always struggled getting through this thing," Reid told the Las Cruces Sun. "These last two weeks, I can honestly say it is as good as I have ever hit the ball."

There were 36 players vying for two spots in the sectional round.
