Robert Ferry, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron chief of unaccompanied housing, gives a tour of the new dorms under construction Feb. 20 at Cannon Air Force Base. The 96-person dorms have been under construction since August of 2012 and one is expected to be completed later this year.

The construction of two new dormitories at Cannon Air Force Bas has made headway as of Feb. 20.

The identical 96-person dorms, one contracted in Fiscal Year 2011 and the other in FY12, are being built to alleviate the recent overflow of single airmen in the dorms.

While both dormitories were expected to be completed by 2014, they may be moving ahead of schedule.

"The contractor has speculated that the FY11 dorm may be finished as soon as August," said Robert Ferry, 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron chief of unaccompanied housing. "This is good news for the airmen of Cannon, many of whom are currently sharing living space with one or more roommates."

The new dorms will consist of four single-bedrooms each with private bathroom and storage areas that are connected to common areas with a full-working-kitchen and relaxation space.
