Medical decontamination team members worked diligently, performing exercises and honing skills Feb. 21 at the 27th Special Operations Medical Group at Cannon Air Force Base.

A two-day seminar lead by Charlie Jansen, DECON, LLC instructor, was held to teach 27 SOMDG members the skills necessary for emergency decontamination situations.

"We train them for the worst and hope for the best," said Jansen. "We're teaching them how to protect their base."

The seminar included instruction, followed by airmen applying the skills they had learned.

"You can never predict when a catastrophic event is going to happen," said Master Sgt. Edward Caffrey, 27th Special Operations Aerospace Medicine Squadron. "If we familiarize airmen with the equipment and the process of decontamination, when something does happen, we can be better prepared."
