Samoei, Buchanan pace ENMU

ALBUQUERQUE — Senior Isaiah Samoei led a 2-5 Eastern New Mexico University finish in the men's mile run while junior Brittany Buchanan paced a 3-6 showing for the Zias in the women's 3,000 on Saturday in the University of New Mexico's Don Kirby Open indoor track meet.

Samoei posted a time of four minutes, 20.58 seconds in the mile, about two seconds short of a qualifying time for the NCAA Division II indoor championships. Sophomore Kaspars Briska was fifth in 4:26.25.

Samoei added a third-place finish in the 3,000 in 8:47.70, with junior Kevin Roa seventh in 9:02.04. Also for the Greyhounds, junior Matt Dominguez came in fourth in the 800 in 2:01.77.

In field events, freshman Michael Moore placed third in high jump (6-2); sophomore Dathan McWhorter was fourth in shot put (44-0 3/4) and fifth in weight throw (38-9); freshman Jaleel Jackson took fourth in triple jump (44-0 1/2), and grad student John Takeuchi was eighth in long jump (20-9).

Buchanan's time in the women's 3,000 was 11:20.27, while sophomore Beth Blind placed sixth in 11:30.98. Sophomore Sabrina Huelga was seventh in the women's mile run in 5:25.98.

ENMU tracksters return to action on Saturday in the South Plains College Invite at Levelland, Texas.
