Last time out: The Rams opened district play on Friday, edging Ruidoso 55-54 on the road. Lovington lost at home on Tuesday to Class 5A Clovis 67-60.

Of note: The Rams are ranked fifth in this week's Maxpreps.com Class 3A poll; despite its record, Lovington is ranked No. 9 after playing a schedule heavy with Class 4A, Class 5A and Texas teams. … Leading scorers for the Wildcats against Clovis were 6-foot-1 junior F Andrew Horner (18) and 6-5 sophomore P Stephen Lenox (12). … Two of Lovington's wins were over West Las Vegas (65-53) and Pojoaque (52-50) in the Portales Shoot Out in early January. … The teams have played nine common opponents, with PHS going 3-6 and Lovington 5-8 in those games.

Last time out: Portales won easily at Ruidoso 55-17 on Friday in its district opener. The Lady Wildcats' last outing was a 75-43 district win at home over Ruidoso on Feb. 2.

Of note: Lovington is ranked fourth and Portales fifth in this week's Class 3A Maxpreps.com poll. … The teams have faced nine common opponents this season, with the Lady Rams going 8-4 in those games and the Lady Wildcats posting a 7-3 mark. … Lovington's leading scorer is junior G Jocelyn Jeffery, who is averaging 17.5 ppg. Other top players for the Lady Wildcats are senior Cori Haley and sophomore Juztice Perry.
