ENMU tracksters compete in Texas Tech

LUBBOCK — Senior Isaiah Samoei and sophomore Kaspars Briska went 3-5 in the men's 3,000-meter run in Texas Tech's season-openng Red Raider Open track meet, ENMU's first indoor track competition since the school moved up from the NAIA to NCAA Division II in 1984.

Samoei ran the event in a time of 8 minutes, 40.61 seconds while Briska finished in 8:41.11. Junior Kevin Roa was 12th in the event for the Greyhounds in 8:58.20.

The winner was James Coleman of North Texas, who posted a time of 8:38.24.

ENMU teams were second in the finals in 3,200-meter relay competition.

For the Hounds, the team of junior Matt Dominguez, Briska, Road and Samoei was second behind Wayland Baptist in 8:10.1. while the Zias' team of sophomore Sabrina Huelga, junior Brittany Buchanan and freshman Jherica Rhodes and Amber Saiz ran a time of 10:07.32.

ENMU returns to action on Saturday at New Mexico's Don Kirby Open imeet at Albuquerque.
