The flight was part of a routine training mission conducted over White Sands Missile Range in coordination with coalition forces both on the ground and in the air.

The squadron's AC-130H Spectre gunship supported training of coalition ground forces while flying over White Sands Missile Range.

The AC-130H Spectre gunship is a heavily armed aircraft designed for close air support, armed reconnaissance, interdiction, night search and rescue and airborne command and control. The 16 SOS trains and maintains its combat-ready force to provide highly accurate firepower in support of both conventional and unconventional forces.
