Consruction underway for fitness center

The remodeled entrance to the Fitness Center awaits use Oct. 15 at Cannon Air Force Base. The Fitness Center recently remodeled its premises and added better equipment to improve the experience of its patrons.

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE — Improvements all over the base are continuing to augment the quality of life at Cannon Air Force Base.

The Cannon Fitness Center's new construction is one of the renovations adding additional training opportunities. Extensions to the main building have been built to improve quality of user experience, ambiance and center efficiency.

Some important rules and regulations to consider when using the Fitness Center concern the center's main building and family room. Patrons ages six through 15 require adult supervision while using the facilities and equipment; individuals ages 16 and above may use the Fitness Center and its amenities unrestricted.

The family room is not an extension of the Child Development Center on base. The family room is a shared space for parents and children, where parents are responsible for watching their children at all times. Appropriate measures will be taken if the policies and procedures of the Fitness Center are not followed.

"Some notable improvements incorporated within the new construction are expanded workout areas, new equipment, improved lighting, a locker room face-lift, a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and 40 multifaceted fitness classes," said Rob Ewers, 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron fitness and sports director.

For all who plan on using the Fitness Center locker rooms, towels are not provided by the 27 SOFSS, said Ewers. An amenity the Fitness Center does provide all users with is a new specialized filtered water fountain.

"The new fountain has saved more than 28,200 water bottles from going into landfills last quarter," said Ewers.

The over-arching benefit to the Fitness Center construction is that the Cannon community can now physically train in a comfortable, healthy and accessible environment, while contributing to lowering the overall carbon footprint of the base.
