Fun and games at annual Fall Festival

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, — The 27th Special Operations Wing hosted the annual Fall Festival at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., Oct. 27. The festivities included community entertainment, an aircraft static display, food for sale, a haunted ambulance, an inflatable bouncy house and many children's games.

Children in costume eagerly guided their parents from booth to booth as they tried to take part in all activities and stuff their tummies with squadron-baked pastries, hot dogs and other treats. One such 10-year-old child was Erin Mershon, daughter of Lt. Col. Kenneth Mershon, 27th Special Operations Support Squadron commander.

"I had a lot of fun this year," exclaimed the ghoulish-glittery pop princess. "There were a lot of games and food. I played the spider toss and the sweeping pumpkin game - I won whoppers and milk duds."

Erin wasn't the only one having fun as children lined up to play the sweeping pumpkin game. A soft spoken, five-year old, Emily Antonio, daughter of Staff Sgt. Zayed Antonio, 27th Special Operations Maintenance Squadron, grinned as she used a broom to move the little pumpkin across her designated lane.

"I am having a lot of fun this year at the Fall Festival," she said. "I am playing and I am having a lot of fun with my mommy and daddy".

Standing next to her father in the Halloween costume of a little Airman in training, there was no mistaking that Emily was a daddy' s girl.

"All participants involved gained a great deal from the event; it allowed people from different parts of the 27 SOW to interact and gain further understanding of what each other does to execute the mission of the 27 SOW," said Capt. Frederick Meyer, 3rd Special Operations Support Squadron.
