Hounds blitz Texas-Permian Basin

Apparently, the Eastern New Mexico University men's soccer team is pretty comfortable playing on Mondays.

The Greyhounds won for the third time in three such outings on Monday, blitzing Texas-Permian Basin for four second-half goals en route to a 5-1 win at the ENMU pitch.

The Hounds (9-4) have outscored their three Monday foes this season — also including Southern Nazarene (5-1) and University of the Southwest (6-0) — by a combined 16-2 margin.

The Falcons, though, made it tough on ENMU for a half.

Senior defender Michael Stewart gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead about 20 minutes in, but UTPB (5-5) tied it about four minutes later on a goal by Jose Anchondo.

It stayed that way until halftime despite a 14-2 advantage in first-half shots for the Hounds, including 8-1 in shots on goal. In the second half, though, ENMU got its four goals on a total of just seven shots.

Senior forward Diego Santos and junior midfielder Eishu Kanemitsu each scored in the first five minutes of the half, and junior defender Christopher Marrone and sophomore midfielder Carlos Viveros added goals later in the half.

Palombo notched two assists for ENMU, while Marrone, Kanemitsu and Abayneh Crosby each had one.

ENMU completes a three-match homestand with Lone Star Conference outings against Midwestern State at 3 p.m. on Friday and against Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
