Dora stays unbeaten with win at Amherst

AMHERST, Texas — The Dora Coyotes traveled across the state line on Thursday night and improved to 4-0 for the season with a 53-44 victory over the Amherst Bulldogs.

The Coyotes (4-0) had been scheduled to play Animas at Hondo on Friday, but the Panthers dropped their program earlier this season. The game against the Bulldogs was added to take its place.

Dora trailed 6-0 early, but was in front 14-6 at halftime and never relinquished the lead, although the Bulldogs (1-3) kept it interesting.

Coyotes coach Mason McBee noted that two of the Bulldogs' losses had come to highly-rated teams in Texas. "Amherst is a very good team," he said.

Senior quarterback-defensive end Tyler Sites had a strong overall game for Dora, McBee said, adding that Anthony Pena rushed for more than 100 yards and Jestin Watson led the team in tackles.

"It was really a total team effort," McBee said. "It was a long, hard-hitting game."

The Coyotes return to action at home on Friday with a 2 p.m. game against San Jon.
