Desserts with figs featured on show

Information on preparing desserts with figs, making a crocheted bowl and lactose intolerance will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

Robert Del Grande represents the California Fig Advisory Board in Fresno, Calif., and he will demonstrate how easy it is to create indulgent and flavorful desserts as well as create the perfect cheese platter to end any dinner party. Many of these recipes are ones he serves in his restaurant in Houston.

Drew Emborsky is known as The Crochet Dude, and he represents Simplicity Creative Group. He will show how to crochet with fabric, which will include how to cut the fabric with a rotary cutter, how to join the fabric without sewing or tying and then show how to make a crocheted bowl. He's from Houston.

Sara Robbins is the director of Dairy Confidence with DairyMax, and she says that health authorities agree that low-fat and fat-free milk and milk products are an important and practical source of key nutrients for all people — including those who are lactose intolerant. She lives in Albuquerque.

Information on canned pears, making an edible centerpiece with grapes, and working with fat quarters will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" noon on Tuesday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain.)

Nutritionist and author, Pat Baird believes that food should not only taste good but be good for us, and canned pears are always ripe, peeled and ready-to-go. Baird represents the Pear Bureau Northwest, and she lives in Greenwich, Conn.

Jim Howard, California Table Grape Comm., will demonstrate how to make an "edible centerpiece" that is both elegant and inexpensive, as well as show some ways to dress up plain candles and place cards using grapes. He's from Fresno, Calif.

Kimberly Jolly, owner of the Fat Quarter Shop, will explain what a fat quarter is and how it makes an economical way to purchase a large quantities of fabric for various sewing and quilting projects. Jolly lives in Manchaca, Texas.

Chocolate covered figs

4 whole California fresh figs with stems

Fine sea salt, as needed

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Wash and dry figs. Dust lightly with salt; set aside. Measure chocolate chips into microwavable bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds, stir. Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds more and stir again until chocolate is completely melted. Holding fig by stem, dip in melted chocolate and set on wax paper-lined tray. Let stand until chocolate is set. Serves 4.
