Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Reader-submitted: Flower entries encouraged

The members of the Encanto Garden Club of Clovis would like to take this opportunity again this year to inform our community about entering floral or plant exhibits at our up and coming Curry County Fair Flower Show. The fair will take place this year on the week of Aug. 13-18. The Curry County Fair Association publishes an annual fair book that gives a schedule of events, general information, rules and regulations and special rules of the departments in the various divisions.

For residents who plan to place an entry in the flower show, we ask that you refer to this book that will give you the rules for the various floral entries and instructions on how to cut, preserve and clean your entry.

The Flower Show department will be found in the fair book. Due to the dry season this year, if your flower garden didn't weather too well, we ask that you consider the classes of the potted plants, shrubs and vines, cacti and other succulents and the titled arrangements. We pertain this suggestion to the junior division entries as well. There are other classes that can make up for our weather beaten garden entries. This Fair Book is a treasure of information for all the areas and departments of the fair. We invite all potential exhibitors to go by the Events Center, the Courthouse and the Extension Office to get a book, which is free, to further help you with your entries.

Also, we must inform floral entrants that all entries must be in a container or vase, as none will be provided. Also, categorized and identified if possible. Thank you all for your cooperation. For information call Helen Martinez at 762-0711 or Jacque Wuest at 762-6955.
