Five new principals hired for Clovis schools

Clovis Municipal Schools officials announced on Thursday the hiring of five new principals.

A school news release said they are:

  • Laura Adkins, Los Ninos Early Intervention Center and Lincoln-Jackson Family Center;
  • Mandy Carpenter, Parkview Elementary;
  • Kari Lemke, Barry Elementary;
  • Kayla Pipkin, Highland Elementary;
  • Deborah Westbrook, Lockwood Elementary;

CMS Superintendent Terry Myers said the new principals are "very, very instructionally sound and tremendously enthusiastic."

Principals are responsible for the instruction performance in the schools, day-to-day management over the campus and personnel, Myers said.

Here's a profile of each new principal, as provided by the district:

Laura Adkins has been the director/teacher at Portales High School Child Development Center since 2005. Prior to 2005, she was the child care director/teacher at Broad Horizons in Portales. Adkins received her master's in educational administration at Eastern New Mexico University. She succeeds Cynthia Flora Gonzales, who accepted a position in Portales.

Mandy Carpenter was the instructional coach at Marshall Middle School since 2009. Prior to coming to Clovis schools, Carpenter was assistant principal for the Frisco Independent School District in Texas. Carpenter is replacing Christi Richards, who has transferred to reading coordinator at the Cooperative Education Services.

Kari Lemke was a teacher at Barry Elementary for the 2011-2012 school year. Prior to that, Lemke was the instructional coach at James Bickley Elementary School. During her career with Clovis schools, she also taught at Parkview and James Bickley elementaries. Lemke received her master's in educational administration at Wayland Baptist University. Lemke is replacing Tandee Delk, who has transferred to the Grady school district.

Kayla Pipkin was a teacher at Zia Elementary School last year. Prior to that, she was the instructional coach at Yucca Middle School. Pipkin also taught math at Marshall Middle School. Pipkin received her master's in educational administration at Eastern New Mexico University. She is replacing Matthew Trujillo, who has retired.

Deborah Westbrook had been the instructional coach at the Arts Academy at Bella Vista and Parkview Elementary School since 2010. From 2005 to 2010, Westbrook was a teacher at the Arts Academy at Bella Vista. Westbrook received her master's in education administration with an emphasis in reading from Wayland Baptist University. Westbrook is replacing Don Estrada, who has transferred to Choices Alternative School.
