Yarn crafts featured on show

Information on making yarn pom poms, repurposing vintage book covers and preparing food with little garbage will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

Crafter Maria Nerius will show off the hottest yarns by making pom poms, which is the latest craft trend. Not only are the pom poms easy to make, they use some of the latest fashion and home décor colors. She is with favecrafts.com and lives in Palm Bay, Fla.

Lauren Ferguson will show an easy way to repurpose vintage book covers for pennies on the dollar, and they make a perfect keepsake for your travels. Ferguson is a mixed media artist, and her company is Everything Altered, LLC, and she is from Dacula, Ga.

Christy Kabbani and Nicky Poloski are the owners of Two Mothers Foods, and they are going to explain how they prepare and serve food at the local elementary school with little or no garbage. It's quite a unique concept. They lives in Naperville, Ill.

Information on beef cuts for stir fry recipes, making "flat" houses from bias tapes and a new smaller scale of slot cars for family fun will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" noon on Tuesday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain.)

Patty Waid, director of consumer affairs for the New Mexico Beef Council in Albuquerque. will demonstrate how to use different cuts of beef for popular and healthy stir fry recipes.

Pat de Santis, formerly with Wm. E. Wrights, Co. in West Warren, Mass., will show a technique for making "flat" houses from bias tapes and appliqué designs and then show ways to decorate with them.

David Creed represents Carrera, Inc., and he is going to show and talk about the "GO" system of slot car racing. This smaller scale of slot cars is designed for younger children and provides lots of fun for the entire family. Creed lives in Dana Point, Calif.

Two mothers foods

Two Mothers Foods began by offering a lunch program for the Four Winds Waldorf School in Warrenville, Ill. They are expanding, and now have a reduced-waste lunch shop in Naperville, Ill. They hope to share their venture with other conscientious eaters who like the idea that their lunch creates minimal waste.

Minimal waste means the food is served in reusable glass mason jars, with a cloth napkin and real silverware, all in a canvas bag. You also have the option to bring in your own container or thermos and receive a discount. Two Mothers Foods get many of their ingredients locally in order to supply much of the demand throughout the year. At least 50% of their menu is vegan, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free. They are absolutely committed to sustainability: "We do not want to be a food company that creates waste from paper, plastic, or even one-use recyclables or compostable materials," says Christy Kabbani, one of the owners.
