A&M-Kingsville rolls past Hounds

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville's Jaden Dillon improved to 8-0, facing just two batters over the minimum as the Javelinas routed Eastern New Mexico University 11-0 on Friday in the opener of a four-game Lone Star Conference baseball series.

Dillon struck out 11 of the 23 batters he faced and walked none. The only hit he allowed was a two-out double to right field in the fourth inning by senior first baseman Mitch Wolfe.

The game was shortened to 6 1/2 innings by the 10-run rule which goes into effect after seven in all nine-inning LSC games.

ENMU's only other baserunners came with one out in the third when Alex Schultz swas hit by a pitch and Sam Hedrick reached on an error. Schultz was then doubled off when first baseman James Wallace speared a line drive by Luis Quinones and beat Schultz back to the bag.

Third baseman James Black drove in five runs for the Javelinas (25-12, 13-8 LSC), hitting a two-run single in a five-run second and a three-run double in a four-run fifth. Pinch-hitter Julian Duran added a two-run double in the sixth.

Senior left-hander Aaron Anderson (0-1), making his first start of the season after eight relief appearances, went 5 2/3 innings for the Hounds (12-27, 2-18), who have lost 20 of their last 23 games after a 9-7 start.

The teams will play a pair of seven-inning contests today, starting at noon (MDT), before closing out the series on Sunday.
