Zias sixth, Hounds 11th in Howard rodeo

BIG SPRING, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University’s women placed sixth while the men were 11th over the weekend in the Howard College rodeo.

Soplhomore Jessie Kirkes of Carlsbad took second in goat tying for the Zias with a time of 21.5 seconds after splitting first and second in the short go. Also, grad students Eric Creswell and Kacey Kobza placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in breakaway roping whle sophomore Victoria Codgill was sixth in the first go.

Creswell finished with a total time of 8.2 seconds after taking fourth in the short go, while Kobza was fourth in the first go and fifth in the short round.

For the men, sophomore Chrsitian Pettigrew of Fort Sumner was third in steer wrestling with a total time of 12 seconds after placing fifth in the first go and third in the short round. Dora freshman Jesse Clark was 10th in the first go of calf roping.

ENMU squads travel to Stephenville, Texas, this weekend for the Tarleton State rodeo.

Schedule changes — ENMU softball and track teams have announced schedule changes for this week.

The softball team has moved its three-game Lone Star Conference South Division series against Incarnate Word at Zia Field up a day. The teams will play a 2 p.m. single game on Thursday, followed by an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Friday.

ENMU track squads will compete this Friday in the Texas Tech Invitational after two meets scheduled for West Texas A&M were canceled.
