Portales residents accused of stealing scrap metal

Three Portales residents have been arrested and accused of stealing scrap metal and irrigation pumps while a child slept in their vehicle, according to the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release, deputies were sent to the 2200 block of South Roosevelt Road 4 after someone called to report possible illegal dumping. While deputies were on their way, the owner of the land in question called to report people had just stolen irrigation pumps and metal.

Chief Deputy Malin Parker said the vehicle description given by both callers matched.

According to the release, deputies stopped the vehicle, which had irrigation pumps and scrap metal in the bed. Christopher Lewis, 25, Richard Narro, 47, and Deborah Sisson, 58, were in the truck, along with a child about 4 years old, according to the release.

The victim identified the metal and pumps as those stolen.

Parker said Lewis and Narro had loaded the items into the vehicle while Sisson drove and the child, who was related to Sisson, slept in the back.

Lewis, Narro and Sisson were arrested and booked into Roosevelt County Detention Center on charges of larceny of $2,500 to $20,000, a third-degree felony, and conspiracy to commit larceny, a fourth-degree felony. Narro and Lewis were being held on $15,000 cash-only bonds, and Sisson was being held in lieu of a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

The child was turned over to its mother.
