Storm may bring first snow of season

A winter storm heading toward eastern New Mexico will likely bring the first snow of the season.

National Weather Service meteorologist David Craft in Albuquerque said there is a winter storm watch in effect for Thursday evening through Friday morning. He said the watch means there could be “a few to several inches” of snow.

Craft said precipitation should begin Thursday morning as rain, then a cold front will move in Thursday afternoon, dropping the temperature and turning rain into snow Thursday evening.

He said snow should taper off Friday afternoon.

The predicted low for Thursday morning is 29 degrees, with a high of 45. Temperatures are expected to drop to 23 degrees Thursday evening, Craft said.

Friday will see a high temperature of 36 degrees and a low of 21 degrees.

Craft said the weather will most likely rebound on Saturday with a high of 50 and clearing skies and a high of 62 on Sunday.
