Discrimination hearing delayed

A discrimination hearing into the firing of former Melrose Police Chief Jennifer Dreiling has been delayed again.

Originally scheduled for Sept. 14-15, the hearing was rescheduled for Dec. 13-14 and has now been pushed to Feb. 15-16, according to Dreiling’s attorney Dan Lindsey.

The hearing is expected to be held in Clovis and will be open to the public, according to the state’s Human Rights Bureau.

Dreiling has alleged former Melrose Mayor Lance Pyle made sexual advances toward her and fired her when she turned him down.

Pyle has said Dreiling’s termination was legitimate and he made no attempt to date her.

In June, the state’s Human Rights Bureau found probable cause for sexual discrimination or retaliation, and ordered a formal hearing.
