Portales – Rochelle A. Pettigrew, 33, and Charles J. Paiz, 39, of Portales were killed in a single vehicle crash.
State Police were called to the scene of a single vehicle roll-over crash just before 11:00 AM this morning (Sunday) near the intersection of South Roosevelt Rd 2 and Roosevelt Rd. X (near Portales).
Through the course of the investigation, the officers learned that the 2007 Ford F-150 driven by Charles J. Paiz was traveling westbound on South Roosevelt Rd. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of his pick-up skidding off the roadway into a bar ditch, then catapulting into several rolls coming to rest in the adjacent field.
During the rolling momentum, the driver and passenger were ejected and later pronounced deceased by the Office of the Medical Investigator. Contributing factors to the fatal crash are speed, failure to wear seatbelts and alcohol.
