A Dec. 17 hearing is set for a woman accused of abusing her stepdaughter last year.

Athena Shepherd is charged with abusing her then-10-year-old stepdaughter in September 2009, according to information from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s office.

Mern Shepherd, her husband and the child’s father, pleaded guilty to abuse or abandonment of the girl in April and was sentenced to serve three years of supervised probation, complete parenting classes, pay restitution for his daughter’s counseling and see the girl only with Children, Youth and Families Department approval.
