Samplings of recent calls to Portales-area law enforcement, according to police records:

Thursday

• Just after 3 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a man falsely obtaining accommodation at a motel in the 1100 block of First Street.

The desk clerk said about an hour earlier, a man inquired about room rates and then left the office and began knocking on doors. About 3 a.m., she said, she found that the man had gained entry to a room without authorization or payment.

Two officers met with the 41-year-old man in question.

The man told them he was homeless and had just been released from prison.

Officers arrested the man for falsely obtaining services or accommodation and took him to Roosevelt County Detention Center.

Saturday

• About 9:10 p.m., an officer was called to the 900 block of East Amazon Street in reference to a verbal domestic dispute.

The officer met with a 29-year-old woman who said she went to the home of a friend who was out of town to check on his pregnant dog and found five dead puppies and the mother dog missing.

The woman said she called her friend and he told her to go by a residence in the 900 block of Amazon Street to see if another friend had the dog.

The woman said she went to the friend’s house and saw the dog inside. The man told her the puppies were dead when he found them and he brought two living puppies into the house to keep them warm.

The man refused to give the dogs to the woman.

The two began to yell at each other, the woman said. The woman said the man returned waving a large knife and told her to leave or else. She said the man put the knife against the left side of her neck, and she grabbed the weapon with her left hand and pushed it away.

The officer took photos of marks from the knife on the 29-year-old woman’s neck and left hand and recovered the knife from the residence.

The officer arrested the man and booked him into Roosevelt County Detention Center on charges of aggravated battery.

Monday

• About 10 a.m., an officer was sent to the 100 block of Colorado Drive for a report of a burglary.

The officer spoke with a 20-year-old man who said while he was on vacation, someone stole a flat-screen TV, an X-Box, a Play Station 3, 11 video games, a P1 bike and a laptop computer from his house.

The estimated value of the items was $4,550.

The officer saw no signs of foul play on the doors or windows.

The officer couldn’t obtain fingerprints because the resident and his friend had touched the door knobs. The case is inactive because of lack of evidence and suspects.

• About 11:20 p.m., an officer met with an 18-year-old woman who said she had been sexually assaulted after becoming drunk at a party six weeks before.

The woman said she drank in excess at a party and started to walk back to her residence when she was invited to another party. The people who invited her took her to an apartment in the 900 block of East Canadian Street, and she had more alcohol.

The woman said a man she didn’t know well began to put his hands on her and she rebuffed him. The next thing she said she remembered was waking up on a bed surrounded by men.

She spent the night on the couch in the apartment, and another woman offered to take her home the next morning, she said.

When the 18-year-old went to the health clinic Monday, the nurse told her she was five to six weeks pregnant.

An investigator was to follow up on the incident.

• About 11:35 p.m., an officer was called to Roosevelt General Hospital in reference to a person who’d been bitten by a dog.

The officer was directed to 54-year-old man. The man said he heard his dog was fighting with a tan and brown boxer-type dog in the yard in the 500 block of Broadmoore Acres. When he tried to stop the fight, the boxer bit his lower left leg.

The man said he’d seen the boxer in the neighborhood before. The officer told the man he would have animal control officers look for the dog in the morning and quarantine it for 10 days to see if it was sick.
