Clovis man was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison on drug charges.

Marcello Garza, 34, was convicted in October of possession of paraphernalia, marijuana and methamphetamines as well as felon in possession of a firearm, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.

The convictions stemmed from two incidents.

In September 2009, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Deputies encountered Garza outside a residence while responding to a report of a break-in, the release said. A narcotics dog alerted on his vehicle and officers found marijuana, a handgun and drug paraphernalia.

In March, the release said Portales police conducted a routine traffic stop and found methamphetamines in Garza’s possession.

Following his prison sentence, Garza will be required to serve one year supervised probation.
