Convenience store expanding

Work is under way on a project that will more than double the size of a convenience store at one of Clovis’ busiest intersections.

The Allsup’s convenience store No. 320, located at 2021 N. Prince St., is being demolished to make way for a new building.

The new store will be 3,916 square feet, more than double the approximate 1,700 square feet for the current building.

The $550,000 expansion is being done by Weatherford, Texas-based Steward Builders.

The current building had fuel bays on both its east and west sides. According to plans submitted with the city, the new building will have all of its fuel bays on the west side of the larger building.

Building Safety Director Pete Wilt said the design looks attractive from plans submitted, which detail a steel frame building with a brick exterior.

Entrance points are also being moved, Wilt said, on recommendations from the city traffic committee. The entrance point along 21st Street will move 60 feet east, and the entrance point along Prince Street will move 100 feet south.

Wilt did not have a completion date for the project.

Representatives for Steward Builders could not be reached Monday for comment.

When contacted for comment, an Allsup’s spokesperson said the company was working on a press release related to the expansion, and declined comment prior to sending the news release.
