Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Oct. 24 —

Portales elementary schools and Portales Junior High School are set to participate in drug awareness activities this week as part of National Red Ribbon Week.

The Red Ribbon campaign promotes the belief that one person can make a difference in the fight against drugs and encourages a drug-free lifestyle and participation in drug-use prevention activities, according to a press release.

In 1988, Congress established Red Ribbon Week, which is Monday through Oct. 31 this year, to commemorate the work of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent killed in the line of duty.
