Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

A New Mexico original will take to the stage of Marshall Middle School 7 p.m. Saturday night.
The second installment in Clovis Community College’s Cultural Arts Series, Albuquerque’s Vortex Theatre will perform “Ultima” with a cast that includes four Clovis students.
Written by Santa Rosa Native Rudolfo Anaya, “Bless Me, Ultima” tells the story of a young man in Guadalupe during World War II.
The story is seen through the eyes of 7-year-old Antonio and his relationship with the wise, traditional healer Ultima.
The story presents “the totality of life, the many ways in which one looks at the world, and the connection between every human being. This story captures the soul of a people — and of a community,” a press release said.
The release said a movie based on the book is headed for the big screen, according to a September announcement from Gov. Bill Richardson, who said production will begin in the Santa Fe area sometime this month.
Tickets are $15, general admission, $12 for seniors, military, students and children, and are available at the CCC cashier’s window, Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, Cannon Air Force Base’s ITT office and at the box office the night of the show.
