Eastern New Mexico University ended a six-match Lone Star Conference losing streak against Cameron on Saturday by sweeping the Lady Aggies 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 at Greyhound Arena.
Sophomore outside hitter Amber Durand posted a double-double for the Zias (9-10, 2-4 LSC) with 11 kills and 13 digs, and she also had four of the team’s eight service aces.
Junior middle blocker Stacey Main had a team-best 13 kills for the Zias, while sophomore libero Dallas R ussell had 20 digs and senior setter Veronica Valdez-Kent posted 39 assists.
The Zias’ last win against Cameron came in a neutral-site match at Canyon, Texas, a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 26, 2003.
Back-to-back kills by sophomore outside hitter Megan Carpenter and Main got ENMU off to a fast start in the first set. Durand and Beck combined for 10 of the Zias’ 15 kills in the set.
ENMU posted 19 kills in the second game, with Valdez-Kent collecting 14 assists. The Zias took the lead early and never looked back.
Cameron (7-12, 2-4) built a 6-2 lead early in the third set with Megan Olivarez getting two of her team-high eight kills in that stretch. But a kill from Beck turned the momentum, and the zias took off on a 13-1 run to take control of the set.
As she had done in the first set, Carpenter notched a kill on match point to complete the sweep.
The Zias step outside league play on Tuesday night, hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State in a 7 p.m. start at Greyhound Arena. ENMU has beaten OPSU twice already this season.
