Men's soccer: Hounds win fifth straight

WICHITA, KAN. — Emerson Rodrigues had two goals and an assist, propelling the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team to a 3-2 win Sunday over Newman University.

The win was the fifth straight for the Hounds (7-1), eclipsing the previous team record of four set last season.

Rodrigues, a senior forward from Brazil, scored on a pass from Danillo Santos and on a rebound of a Kal Herbert shot to give ENMU a 2-1 halftime lead. Rodrigues leads the Hounds with seven goals.

Herbert, a freshman midfielder from England, scored his fifth goal of the season off a rebound of a Rodrigues shot 10:17 into the second half to put ENMU up 3-1.

Newman (2-5) held a 13-12 edge in shots over the 90 minutes and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

It was the first time this season Eastern surrendered more than one goal in a game.
