Police: Child killed crossing street

Police say a 4-year-old boy killed by a vehicle Sunday was following his older sister across the street when he was struck.

Xavier Salcido was pronounced dead at Plains Regional Medical Center shortly after the crash, according to a Monday press release from the Clovis Police Department.

Around 4 p.m. Nadine Armijo, 46, was driving north on Cameo Street when the boy ran in front of her 2008 Honda SUV near the intersection of Ninth Street.

The release said she attempted to swerve but could not avoid striking the child.

Police later learned Xavier crossed the road after his sister and a group of older children who were unaware he had followed them.

No charges are expected to be filed in connection with the death, the release said.
