Curry County native competing for state fair queen

Deeann Shafer of Curry County is one of 14 competing this week for the title of New Mexico State Fair Queen.

The competition, which begins Wednesday, includes a written test, horsemanship demonstration, interviews and speeches.

The new queen will succeed Krystie Lynn Bierner and will be crowned Saturday during the PRCA rodeo.
