Temporary traffic light confirmed

Freedom New Mexico

The New Mexico Department of Transportation Friday confirmed plans for a temporary traffic light to be installed at Main and Second in Portales.

NMDOT Engineering Support Manager Bob Kurtz said his department is waiting on a special control cabinet, which is due to arrive in Santa Fe on Monday or Tuesday. After that, Kurtz said, the light must be tested for 10 days before it is installed.

Kurtz said as soon as he knows the exact date of installation, a press release will be issued. Until then, he said, Portales residents can expect the light to go up sometime around the second or third week of October.
