Police blotter — Sept. 12

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Around 1 p.m. Aug. 30 an officer responded to Plains Regional Medical Center in reference to a woman trying to get into people’s cars.

The officer found security with the woman outside the emergency room and was told she had been discharged from the hospital, then started trying to get into other people’s cars.

The woman said she was trying to get into a car she thought belonged to her friend.

When the officer asked her what her name was, she refused to give it to him and after he asked several more times for her identity, she walked away.

The officer told her she was under arrest for concealing her identity and when he tried to handcuff her, she began fighting and kicked him.

The woman was transported to the jail for concealing her identity, resisting arrest and battery on an officer.

Around 5 p.m. Aug. 31 an officer responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Ross Street for a report of battery.

A man said the father of one of his coworkers pulled up in front of his house yelling at him that if he wanted to pick on someone, he should pick on him.

He said the man then walked up and punched him in the face. He said his friend who was at the house with him came over and tried to stop the man from hitting him and ended up fighting on the ground with him until he got up and left in his vehicle.

The man said he had been playing around at work with the man’s son that day but didn’t know what the issue was.

The officer spoke to the man accused of going to the residence and he said he went there because the resident had been messing with his son at work.

The officer noted intent to obtain a battery warrant for the man who went to the residence.

Around 11 a.m. Sept. 1 an officer took a fraud report at the police department.

A woman said she received a check in the mail for $3,750 with a letter that said she had won a prize.

She said she called a phone number on the letter and the man she spoke to said the check was good and to cash it, so she said she deposited it at her bank.

A couple days later, she said she went to her bank and was told the check had cleared, so she withdrew $1,600.

Then she said two days later she went to the bank and was told her money was gone, including the amount of her and a family member’s disability checks, because the check had not gone through.

The officer collected copies of the letter and the check and told the woman the case would be listed as inactive unless further evidence became available.

About 5 p.m. Sept. 2 an officer responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Lilac Road for a report of battery.

When the officer arrived, he spoke to a woman who was outside the house holding an ice pack to her son’s back.

The woman said a 17-year-old female living with her family hit her son. She said she was outside and went inside when she heard her son crying and found he had been hit and scratched.

She said she was not the legal guardian of the girl and did not want the girl at her house anymore because it wasn’t the first time it had happened.

The officer took the girl into custody and took her to the juvenile detention center where she was booked on battery on a household member.
