My turn: Carp can be hostile to humans

When I have a chance I usually watch a show called, “River Monsters,” which airs on Animal Planet. The show follows biologist Jeremy Wade across the world as he does extreme fishing for unique fish. During a recent show about Snakehead fish, he talked about the Asian carp. The species of fish is invasive and hurts the river’s natural environment because they treat the river like a buffet line and gorge themselves.

The one thing that really surprised me about this fish is when boats or anything motorized is around, these fish just jump out of the water. They are frightened by such sounds that they jump 8 to 12 feet in the air to escape the would-be predator. As a result, they can smack an unsuspecting boater in the face. Some boaters and fishermen have been seriously injured by these fish.

All seriousness aside ... I don’t know if Asian carp tastes good, but I’m kind of tempted to go out with an engine and a net, and see what I can catch on the fly.
