Samplings of recent calls received by Portales-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Aug. 27

• On Aug. 27 a Portales Police officer was called into the assistant principal’s office at Portales Junior High School for a report of a fight around 2 p.m.

A coach and a teacher told the officer they witnessed two 13-year-old girls fighting on the courtyard around 1 p.m. The girls told the officer they were fighting about “talking trash” to each other and unwanted text messages.

One girl was charged with battery and one with public affray. The case was referred to the juvenile probation officer and the girls were released to their parents.

• Around midnight, an officer witnessed a black Chevrolet pickup making abrupt stops and speeding through residential streets. The officer located the vehicle at a convenience store, where he talked to the driver. The officer noted driver’s speech was extremely slurred, and the man appeared confused. The officer reported finding a can of beer in the passenger side seat console.

The officer issued a citation to the passenger for minor in possession of alcohol, and New Mexico State Police arrived and investigated the driver for DWI.

• Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of West 15th Street for a fight in progress.

Officers determined a fight stemmed from a domestic dispute when a female sent a text message to her friend asking for help because she and her boyfriend were fighting.

Officers said when the woman’s friends arrived, her boyfriend began hitting a man with a metal pipe and the pipe was wrestled away from the boyfriend, who fled the scene,

Police located the boyfriend and arrested him for violating a condition of release by drinking alcohol.

A female subject was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
