Sophomore Wes Wood threw for 275 yards and five touchdowns to lead Eastern New Mexico to a 35-21 halftime lead over Southern Nazarene in a weather-delayed game at Blackwater Draw.
The game was delayed three times by lightning and did not start until one hour and 45 minutes after its scheduled 6 p.m. kickoff. The first quarter ended slightly after 9 p.m.
Senior Jesse Poku was Wood’s favorite target with eight catches for 116 yards and three TDs.
ENMU scored the final two touchdowns of the half on Woods’ TD passes of 29 yards to Poku and 48 yards to Tyler Finch.
Brady Wardlaw rushed for two TDs for Southern Nazarene.
It is the season opener for both teams.
